It all started with a passion for food, culture, and the joy of sharing a meal. A group of friends with roots in Malaysia found themselves missing the home-cooked meals and vibrant street food they grew up with—the taste of their childhood, the comfort of aromatic spices, the warmth of freshly made Curry Puffs, and the sense of togetherness that comes with sharing a meal.

And so, Jom Makan was born. The name means “Let’s Eat” in Malay—an open invitation to gather, sit down, and share in a communal dining experience.

At Jom Makan, every dish tells a story—from creamy Nasi Lemak passed down through generations to bold, soulful Laksa. Each plate is made with care, using authentic recipes and ingredients that bring the taste of Malaysia to Sunderland’s heart.

But Jom Makan is more than just a place to eat. It is where friendships form over spicy Sambal, where families gather with laughter, and where the community experiences the richness of Malaysian culture. A place where strangers become friends, and friends become family.

Today, Jom Makan continues to grow, but its heart stays the same—to share the flavours of Malaysia, the warmth of home-cooked meals, and the joy of eating together.
